The seven swaras of  carnatic music have their own attributes. Discover the swaras, the interconnectedness of our soul, music and the whole cosmos!!




Shadjam, SA, the swara that births all other swaras;

The one that is influenced by the entrancing sound of the peacock;

The one that is connected with Mercury and so

Is depicted in green colour;

The one that is connected with our base chakra...

Bowing to the unparalleled….









Rishabham, RE, the brawny fire like sound;

The one that is influenced by the husky sound of the bull;

The one that is connected with Mars and so

Is depicted in red colour;

The one that is connected with our sacral chakra…









Gandharam, GA, a bit melancholically sweet sound;

The one that is influenced by the bleating sound of the goat;

The one that is connected with the Sun and so

Is depicted in golden colour;

The one that is connected with our solar plexus…



Madyamam, MA, the capturing middle swara;

The one that is influenced by the enchanting sound of the krouncha bird (demoisellecrane);

The one that is connected with the Moon and so

Is depicted in white and yellow colour;

The one that is connected with our heart chakra...



Panchamam, PA, the sweet fifth swara;

The one that is influenced by the springtime sound of the koel;

The one that is connected with Saturn and so

Is depicted in blue colour;

The one that is connected with our throat chakra…




Daivatam, DHA, the earthy sixth swara;

The one that is influenced by the neighing sound of the horse;

The one that is connected with Jupiter and so is depicted in yellow colour;

The one that is connected with our Agya chakra…




Nishadam, NI, the mystical seventh swara;

The one that is influenced by the trumpeting of the elephant;

The one that is connected with Venus and so is depicted in multi colour;

The one that is connected with our crown chakra...



In some ancient literature these swaras are depicted as Devtas or Gods. This is such a deep and interesting subject.. I could only gather a limited amount of knowledge
